Joan of Arc -- the Musical
is a labor of love conceived in 1979 by Linda
Lawrence-Winters and a small collaborative group of friends. Joan of Arc
was performed in the Fort Worth area in two
separate runs--the first run in 1981 at the Hilton Hotel, the second in
1983 at the Wm. Edrington Scott Theater. Professional
recordings were made of the songs in 1986.
Joan of Arc
draws its
inspiration from the life of the beloved figure, Saint Jehanne d'Arc.
It celebrates her life, her loves, her joys, and
gives voice to her sorrows. Joan of Arc inspires audiences
and bears Joan's standard through a poignant combination of music,
dance and written
word.
The story traces Joan's journey from her first calling,
through
her
meeting King Charles VII, her efforts to restore him as
rightful ruler of France, and her quest to keep France in the
hands of her beloved countrymen--all culminating in her
ultimate sacrifice for a
cause she loved more than life itself.
Joan
of Arc
reaches across time and cultural boundaries, offering the
message
of peace, brotherhood, and hope against a backdrop of tyranny,
betrayal, war, and strife. Never has this message been more
relevant than it is today.
The book and score
of Joan of Arc -- The
Musical
will soon be made available for theater companies, churches, schools
and organizations
interested in performing this work for their own audience.
